FAQ

Does Phoner support DSL?

Since version 1.66 supports VoIP. Speech connections to SIP compatible devices can be established.
Using external SIP gateways it must be ensured, that firewalls have port 5060 and 5062 opened.
Phoner has to work in SIP mode (Options/Communication).

What must be configured for VoIP?

What are the charges for calls using Phoner?

There are the same charges using Phoner as using you normal ISDN phone in CAPI mode (using ISDN card or USB adapter).
Using VoIP mode - there are the charges for the existing internet connection. Additionally there the charges of the VoIP provider for interconnections to other networks.

Does Phoner support modems?

No. Phoner supports both interfaces for PC telephony: CAPI and TAPI. In theory modems are supported in TAPI mode, but most vendors don't offer TAPI drivers with full duplex voice support. Therefore I gave up to let Phoner work with modems.

How can I minimize the echo?

  • Avoid acoustic feedback: Your microphone shouldn't record what playing your speakers. So avoid maximum volumes or use a headset
  • Wrong mixer settings: The microphone should be the only recording device and should be disabled as plaing device
  • Delay is to large: Change the setting for block size at "Options/Communication/CAPI" to a lower value. Keep in mind, that external devices like USB adapters don't work well with very small block sizes - there will be dropouts.
  • Try smaller volumes for recording and playing
